Combining aesthetic appeal and environmental friendliness is the key to a unique home design from one of Western Australia's leading building companies.

Rural Building Company specifically designed its Skillion Retreat to minimise its impact on its surrounds and to optimise solar orientation.

The combination of steel and glass, together with the skillion roof, gives the home a striking architectural look from all angles.

The design features a roof made from COLORBOND® steel and wall cladding made from ZINCALUME® steel.

Developed specifically for Australian conditions, COLORBOND® steel and ZINCALUME® steel provide a visually striking, long lasting cladding material.

The Rural Building Company's Skillion Retreat design suits an east west orientation to provide the best possible solar efficiency advantages.

The roof overhangs the northern facade to keep out the summer sun, while maximising winter warmth.

The use of large sliding glass doors and louvre windows - which can be opened and closed to control ventilation - allows the main living areas to be full of light and space.

The home, which can be reconfigured to suit either a suburban block or a larger rural lot, features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a central living, dining and kitchen area as well as a specialised theatre room that seats up to 12 people.

The Skillion Retreat is just one of a range of homes built by Rural Building Company that features COLORBOND® steel.

Rural Building Company recently won the third and final WA phase of the COLORBOND® steel "Make the Right Choice and Win" competition.

It won an A$8,000 home entertainment package from BlueScope Steel simply by using building products made from COLORBOND® steel on the home.

Homeowners throughout Western Australia, who chose building products made from COLORBOND® steel from a registered builder, went into the draw to win an identical home entertainment package. The builders' prizes were linked to consumer prizes.

The entertainment package included a widescreen TV, DVD video player, Dolby digital receiver, active subwoofer, satellite speakers and speaker stands and a music voucher.
