One of the first projects on Paramount Industrial Estate in Victoria has been completed using an unusual combination of COLORBOND® steel that is sure to set the precedent for buildings to follow.
The new A$3 million, 6,300 square metre logistics facility developed by Investa Commercial Developments is one of the first of many to be built on the 195 hectares estate located at Derrimut, 19 kilometres from Melbourne's central business district.
Covered in steel in a mixture of colours and profiles, the building's strong presence demonstrates why steel is so often specified on commercial and industrial projects.
Adrian Young of Watson Young, architects for the facility, explains: "We chose to use various applications of steel on this project to create a strong industrial aesthetic. The variety of colours and profiles of COLORBOND® steel cladding help to build a visually pleasing facade that will stand out against other buildings on the estate."
The buildings' exterior features a clever mixture of steel with walling, gutters and downpipes made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Surfmist®, roller shutter doors made from COLORBOND® steel and a roof made from ZINCALUME® steel.
"We always specify the use of COLORBOND® steel on commercial and industrial projects", adds Adrian, "because it is flexible in creating different looks, is easy to use and is strong and durable, which is essential when constructing a building that has to withstand decades of use."
