A LYSAGHT® manufactured roofing profile that is absolutely 100% weathertight is a feature of one of Sydney's largest manufacturing developments. The new headquarters for materials handling and packaging equipment manufacturer, Mannesman Dematic Colby at Belrose in Sydney's northern suburbs, uses the new LYSAGHT INTEGRITY® cladding system.

The 40,000 square metre project includes a 10,000 square metre industrial building, with a 15 metre wide cantilevered awning, a separate three-storey office building, and parking for 340 cars. It was the first large commercial project to use BlueScope Steel's newly developed LYSAGHT INTEGRITY® cladding system.

Integrity sheeting provides excellent rainwater carrying capacity at low slopes down to a minimum of two degrees. Unique patented sealing plates combined with fasteners and specially designed neoprene washers make the LYSAGHT INTEGRITY® system absolutely 100% waterproof.

Design architect, Michael Fountain of MFA Design, said the fundamental premise for the roof design was that there should be no possibility of leaks whatsoever. A key feature of the roof design is the absence of joints, achieved by using three continuous sheets across the 54 metre width of the roof, the centre section being sprung curved and raked.

"We adopted the design approach to ensure we would have a roof that wouldn't leak at all," Michael Fountain said. "The result is a 54 metre wide roof with no expansion joints or ridge. "We have designed a number of sprung curved roofs before, but never anything on this scale."

The large size of the project also enabled MFA Design to specify special colours for the roofing and wall cladding. "We had literally hundreds of colours from the Dulux range to choose from, and BlueScope Steel has since dubbed the two shades chosen as Country Blue on the roof and York Blue for the walls," said Mr Fountain. "Every aspect of the roof and wall cladding has been handled superbly and in a way that made it very easy for our company as designers and specifiers to get the right product for the job.

"It makes a great difference to deal with a company that has such extensive product knowledge that they interpreted our design goals, matched the product to the brief, and who are also fully prepared to warrant the product if the recommendations were adopted. "This meant that we got exactly what we wanted with the highest possible degree of comfort for us and our client."
