Myrtleford & District War Memorial Hospital in Victoria's north east features more than 4,000 square metres of LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® cladding made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Shale Grey™.

The A$5.5 million upgrade of the hospital which services a major town near the Victorian Alps has resulted in vastly improved facilities crowned with an attractive steel roof. Myrtleford & District War Memorial Hospital is a state of the art health care facility with 45 beds providing 24 hour acute and aged care services.

The renovations have resulted in the completion of much-improved facilities accommodating 30 aged care beds, wards containing 15 acute care beds and an administration area. It will provide care for more than 4,000 people from the township and surrounding districts with services including minor surgery, accident and emergency, aged care, community health and general medicine.

The new-look hospital has a roof with more than 4,000 square metres of LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® cladding made from COLORBOND® steel in Shale Grey™. COLORBOND® steel is made in Australia by BlueScope Steel.

Architect Kevin Johnson of Baade Harbour Australia said the use of roofing profiled in LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® ensured that a tapered look could be achieved.

"Generally steel roofing is cost effective, but what was of more concern to us was having the roof line follow the curved floor plan," Kevin Johnson said. "We could follow the entire length of the roof without the need for valley gutters or segments."

The 4,000 plus square metres of LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® roofing was installed in two days by Meredith Roof Plumbing. Meredith Roof Plumbing project supervisor Steven Muir said the steel roof installed at Myrtleford & District War Memorial Hospital was the best he had seen during 18 years in the roofing industry.

"It was not a huge job but the way the semi circle of the roof was achieved by tapering the LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® sheets was very impressive," he said. Browns of Wangaratta in Victoria built the extensive redevelopment.
