A home designed for a Queensland couple has overcome difficult sloping site conditions by using a steel floor support system that has minimal environmental impact on their hilltop block. The two storey contemporary style home was constructed by Nu-Steel Homes in Toowoomba on the LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR" steel flooring system.
It is designed to maximise the views towards the Gold Coast from its position high up in the hinterland.
Nu-Steel Homes Toowoomba designer, Henry French, said the difficult site graphically demonstrated the advantages of the lightweight, high strength flooring system.
"This house would have been extremely difficult to construct on a concrete slab because of the poor nature of the soil and its location right on the top of the hill," said Mr French.
"Because of the steepness of the site the basic LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR" system was ideal. This combined with Nu-Steel building frames manufactured from ZINCALUME® steel produces a precision engineered structure that is extremely strong yet lightweight."
Trees on the natural bushland site were retained and integrated into the overall design which includes large elevated outdoor entertaining deck areas built around the home. The three-bedroom home is constructed over three levels with a total floor area of more than 178 square metres.
It features curved roof forms in LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® sheeting in Mountain Blue COLORBOND® steel with matching blue walls and black trim.
Hot dipped galvanised steel posts with ant caps and LYSAGHT TOPSPAN® 120 joists and LYSAGHT Cee purlins make up the steel components of the QUIKA-FLOOR" system. The telescopically adjustable posts and components are fast, dimensionally accurate and delivered on site pre-cut, labelled and accompanied by working drawings.
The LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR" subfloor system is available Australia-wide through the BlueScope Lysaght national distributor network.
Mr French said the region in which the home was built was termite prone, so having an all-steel home was designed to give the owners extra peace of mind.
