Technology and environmental sustainability have been impressively fused together to create Innovation House 2 (IH2), a new designer home concept initiated by leading Queensland environmental developer Heritage Pacific and the Gold Coast City Council.
IH2, located at Heritage Pacific's Genesis community at Coomera, Queensland, showcases smarter, greener, easier and more affordable living, using the latest in technology, in an environmentally friendly home.
The home is the first to be launched under Queensland's Sustainable Homes Program which involves the Queensland government, local councils and builders. It has received HIA GreenSmart accreditation and endorsement under the State Government Smart Housing Program, giving potential buyers the confidence that IH2 has been designed and built to the very highest standards.
All parts of the home have been designed to promote long term sustainability, green living and home owner comfort. These include an innovative storage and monitoring system to reduce water consumption and features to maximise thermal efficiency such as specially placed skylights and a roof made from COLORBOND® steel.
Mark Routledge, Executive Director of Housing at Heritage Pacific, explains: "IH2 is the home of the future as it contains all the digital high tech features you'd expect of a modern home with the added bonus of the environmental and lifestyle benefits found in sustainable housing design."
"People today are becoming more and more concerned with issues of global warming and energy efficiency so we hope that when people visit IH2, they will gain an understanding of design, environmental sustainability, digital living options and how easily these can be incorporated into a home."
IH2 boasts a staggering array of features including lightweight, high insulation building materials, energy efficient skylights and ventilation systems, new low toxic eco paint, cross ventilation and motorised louvres, energy and water use monitoring system, instantaneous gas hot water, high tech underground and slimline above ground water tanks, water efficient products and appliances, sustainable bamboo flooring and solar pavers that light the way to the self opening front door at night.
Dean Chandler, Market Development Manager at BlueScope Steel, manufacturers of COLORBOND® steel, added: "People today are hugely concerned with issues such as global warming, water consumption, energy efficiency and sustainability. Sustainable development is the future of housing development, which is why we chose to get involved in IH2. We have become a sponsor of the project and have provided a roof made from COLORBOND® steel, to help ensure that the home will be energy efficient, therefore reducing air conditioning costs. Also, steel fits in well with new, modern housing design and is very adaptable to different styles of housing, so it can give people the exact look they are after."
The Genesis community is located in the Pimpama Coomera Water Futures area which is being promoted as an innovative water efficient region of the future. Once completed, the Genesis community will include more than 700 homes situated on 76 hectares, of which 15 hectares will be dedicated to green spaces.
