Install LYSAGHT INTERLOK™ II grating
Installation
INTERLOK™ II grating installations should be planned so as to use long lengths over multiple spans wherever possible. With multiple span installations, deflection is lower than simple spans for the same applied load and installation is quicker.

To prevent relative movement between INTERLOK® II sections under load, and to make them work together as a continuous platform, 1.2mm thick INTERLOK® II should be crimped at mid span for spans in excess of 1500mm, and 2.0mm thick crimped at spans in excess of 1800mm. On longer spans, additional crimping may be desirable.
Crimping is quick and easy with the INTERLOK® II Crimping Tool. This tool is simply placed through the slots in the grating from above, clamped around the legs and operated to crimp the return lips on the leg sections together. The INTERLOK® II Crimping Tool is available from BlueScope Lysaght Distributors who can be located using our Supplier Locator.
INTERLOK™ II grating is readily cut on site with a hacksaw or power saw. When obstructions such as pipes, cable ducts, etc. are encountered, the grating is normally laid up to the obstruction and cut around it as required. Adjacent lengths of INTERLOK™ II grating should be joined together around cut-outs so as to ensure adequate distribution of the applied loads.
For internal applications, it is not always necessary to attach INTERLOK™ II grating to the support structure. However, in installations where wind or vibration must be considered, the grating should be adequately fixed to the supports using the INTERLOK™ II J Bolt or Hold Down Clip.
Important Note
When using INTERLOK™ II in a rural flooring application or where temperature variations are high, it is recommended that allowance be made for expansion. This would involve a 100mm gap left for every 20 sheet widths of flooring. It is also recommended that in rural flooring the floor be thoroughly hosed down about three times a week to prevent an accumulation of waste matter in the side laps.
Compatibility
INTERLOK™ II grating should be installed on galvanized or painted supports. If INTERLOK™ II is welded, the coating damage around the welds should be cleaned and re-touched with zinc-rich paint.
Performance
INTERLOK™ II sections are accurately roll-formed to close dimensional tolerances and the load capacities have been established by testing. Sections chosen using data contained herein will perform as specified when the design and installation are carried out in accordance with the recommendations set out in this publication and with accepted building practice.
Packing
INTERLOK™ II grating is normally supplied in strapped bundles of 20 lengths.
Handling and Storage
Bundles of INERLOK™ II should not be allowed to get wet. If not required for immediate use, the bundles should be stacked clear of the ground and, if left in the open, protected by waterproof covers. Moisture trapped beneath panels may cause unsightly water staining and detract from the finished appearance.
Care must be taken when handling long length bundles. When lifting, a suitable beam should be used. The beam should have several lifting points and carefully located slings.
For personal safety, sections should only be handled using clean, dry gloves.
Adverse Conditions
If it is intended to use INTERLOK™ II grating within 1km of salt marine locations, or in severe industrial or unusually corrosive environments, please Contact Us.
