Amoveo’s Portable Buildings Combine Durability And Good Looks

Building products and construction coordination from BlueScope Lysaght have helped transportable housing specialist Amoveo take its modular design to a new level.

Amoveo's range of accommodation, site office, ablutions, refrigeration, kitchen, dining and infrastructure units is based on steel framed ISO modules, structures with the same dimensions as standard shipping containers.

It configures them in multiples to suit the requirements of individual customers, with a growing clientele in the mining and holiday accommodation sectors.

"Using the ISO module as the basis of our designs means that units have the strength to be moved cost effectively by truck, train, ship or helicopter without suffering structural damage," Amoveo Director, Emanuel Papas said.

As part of its response to increasing demand for its innovative accommodation solutions, Amoveo's design team recently combined two ISO modules to create a two bedroom cabin or home with bathroom, kitchen and meals/living room.

"We produce units for domestic, commercial, infrastructure and technology uses, so there is a need to tailor their external and internal features to make them suitable for their end use," Emanuel said.

"That includes wall and roof cladding and in some cases the provision of a covered verandah."

Amoveo approached BlueScope Lysaght to assess the suitability of the LYSAGHT QUIKAFLOOR® system to create a verandah structure which would be as durable as the rest of the accommodation unit.

LYSAGHT QUIKAFLOOR® is a fully engineered and certified steel sub flooring system assembled from pre cut components to save time and labour costs on site. Available head adjustment of 200mm allows fast installation and levelling on site.

Drilling and bolting are largely eliminated by the use of a self drilling screw system, using a power drill with a hexagonal socket or a clutched screwdriver for the professional.

All LYSAGHT QUIKAFLOOR® components are galvanised, hot dip galvanised, or are made from durable ZINCALUME® steel, providing a floor that is termite, fire and corrosion resistant.

BlueScope Lysaght not only provided a LYSAGHT QUIKAFLOOR® solution, but also assisted by sourcing and supplying all sheeting, timber decking, steel sub floor, awning uprights and associated trim items as well as coordinating installers.

"Some elements of the base module remain exposed, as part of the design effect, so that a more attractive outcome is achieved," Emanuel said.

"We worked with BlueScope Lysaght to ensure that our design would retain its core benefits of durability, quick installation and low maintenance, while we improved the aesthetics."

The prototype unit, which has been built to comply with building regulations applicable in cyclone zones, has a low pitched roof clad in LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® profile in ZINCALUME® steel.

External walls are also clad in LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® profile in COLORBOND® steel. The wall and roof cladding has improved on the modules' already excellent acoustic and thermal insulation.

Amoveo has already received strong enquiry for the two bedroom cabin which is actively under consideration for large scale requirements in Darwin, Kalgoorlie, Mackay and other sites.
