This unusual three bedroom home is the result of an award winning combination of one of Victoria's top building designers and top cabinet makers. The exterior cladding is a combination of textures and materials, featuring COLORBOND® steel in Dune® at the top of the walls in contrast to bright yellow and blue panels.

Cabinetmaker and furniture designer Paul Grant commissioned award winning designer Graham Jones to design and build a home for him in Warranwood in Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs.

Paul Grant won a Cabinet Maker's Association of Victoria Cabinet Maker of the Year award for his attention to the interior detailing in this home.

The entry to the unusual three bedroom home has a raised ceiling which provides contrast with the two major roof forms of the building. These are both skillioned and curved towards east and west.

Curving roof sections made from COLORBOND® steel in Dune®, and skillion roofing made from ZINCALUME® steel, provide a roof shape which enhances feelings of light and space throughout the home.

"Working with the colours available in COLORBOND® steel gives me scope to create a unique, engaging design each time," Mr Jones said.

The simple floorplan has allowed the principal living zone to dominate the lower level by the effective use of a central hallway on the upper level, bisecting the home and providing 'drop-off' points to all major destinations.

The exterior cladding is a Graham Jones' signature combination of textures and materials, featuring COLORBOND® steel in Dune® at the top of the walls in contrast to bright yellow and blue panels.

A purple 'enclosure' dominates the west corner of the house, containing the shower in the main bathroom.

"The cantilevered towering outer purple walls secure the shower area which is a clear glass shower enclosure leaning to the outside, using angled toughened floor-to-ceiling glazing," Mr Jones said.

"This gives the impression that some of the walls are missing when entering from the inside.

"The custom-designed shower pedestal rising from the tiled floor dominates the room."

Graham Jones has received numerous awards over the past years from the Building Designers Association of Victoria, including Designer of the Year in 2000 and Winner Best Residential Design Project Home.
