Fast Food for the Outdoors

An Australian sandwich panel specialist is producing an innovative roofing product that has caught the interest of fast food outlets. Two fast food chains have installed awnings at their outlets around Sydney using Spacemaker 1000 composite roof panels made by APS Versiclad.

Spacemaker 1000 panels combine an exterior of profiled COLORBOND® steel for Roofing in Dune®, with a polystyrene insulation core and a clean, white, stucco embossed steel ceiling face. The panels offer high insulation and a trafficable free span of up to 5.4 metres.

The new awnings mean diners at a growing number of fast food restaurants in Sydney's west can enjoy a meal outside and under cover from the elements.

APS Versiclad started producing the Spacemaker Panels from its custom designed machine in July 2000 to supply the domestic and commercial markets. APS sales and marketing manager Lee McGuire said the product had initially been conceived as a product for the domestic home improvements market, but had attracted considerable interest among commercial developers.

"It was a bonus to have Spacemaker 1000 panels specified and installed by two major fast food outlets at some of their restaurants," Mr McGuire said. APS Versiclad has invested nearly A$250,000 in plant and machinery to produce Spacemaker 1000 and has extensive production capacity available.

The company can make Spacemaker 1000 panels up to 10 metres in length.
