1. Steel House Frames in Five Days |
Steel house frames can now be designed, fabricated
and erected for an average-sized home in less than
five days. It’s made possible through the Scottsdale
Steel Framing System, a revolutionary mobile roll
forming system that takes the manufacture of ZINCALUME®
steel building frames out of the factory and directly
on site.

2. Nepean Bridge Still Going Strong with Steel |
A
major steel bridge has recently been inspected to
determine the current condition of the corrosion protection
systems. The Nepean Bridge at Camden, NSW, was opened
in March 1973 and consists of twin box girders with
composite reinforced deck, supported on concrete piers.
The inspection and refurbishment of the corrosion
protection system has ensured ongoing protection for
the bridge at an economical price. For more:

3. Simple Solution over Ballarat Bypass |
A
clever design by VicRoads Engineers, coupled with
smart construction methods provided a competitive
solution for a pedestrian bridge over the Ballarat
Bypass in Victoria. The bridge provides an important
link for the local community allowing easy access
to the nearby school and shops. Find out more about
the design features that contributed to the substantial
cost savings

4. How to Form Steel Plate |
Many
plate applications require that the steel be formed
to varying extents, ranging from simple cold bending
in a press brake to deep drawing in complex, multi-stage
die presses. The latter is a specialist process outside
the scope of this note, however, the metallurgical
principles involved and some general guidelines appropriate
to more conventional forming operations are outlined
here:

flooring solutions for industrial and commercial buildings.
Strong and easy to fabricate, the product features
raised patterning on one side and comes in thicknesses

8. Did You Know... |
Five
completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your mind.
The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is space. Did
you know:
- Pioneer
11's speed going past Jupiter was over 172,200 kph,
the fastest speed ever traveled by a man-made object.
- If
you attempted to count the stars in a galaxy at
a rate of one every second, it would take around
3,000 years to count them all.
- Each
of the Space Shuttle's solid rocket motors burns
5 tons of propellant per second.
- The
accuracy with which Voyager arrived at the planet
Neptune is equivalent to the feat of sinking a 3630
km golf putt (assuming that the golfer can make
a few illegal fine adjustments while the ball is
rolling across this incredibly long green.)
- During
each launch, the Saturn V generated eighty-five
times as much power as the Hoover Dam. The combined
power of the first two stages generated enough energy
to supply all of New York City for 1 hour and 15
minutes.
