1. Steel
Yourself For The New COLORBOND® steel Colour Range
|
Muted
browns, earthy yellows, purplish greys and deep-moody
blues are the absolute latest trends in colour. But
they're only part of the excitement surrounding our
soon-to-be-released colour range. COLORBOND® steel
will also be offering a new pre-painted coating technology
that's proven to look newer for longer. Even in Australia's
harshest conditions. To register your interest in
the new COLORBOND® steel range go to:

2. XLERPLATE® Ships Win New Business |
South
Australian designed, ultra-efficient, fishing vessels
built with XLERPLATE® steel are winning local
and export business for an innovative shipyard. Developed
by BHP Steel, XLERPLATE® steel offers customers
a flexible steel plate solution that is suitable for
structural, pressure vessel and heat treatable applications.

3. Cyclonic Area Design Manual for Steel Roofing
& Walling |
This
Cyclonic Area Design Manual for Steel Roofing and
Walling is designed as a reference guide to the correct
installation of the LYSAGHT® range of steel roofing
and walling profiles in cyclonic conditions. If you're
a user of the manual, it's important that you're aware
that the manual has recently been updated. The primary
change in the manual has been made to the batten spacings
table. To view the new version of the manual visit:

4. Special Australian Steel Gives Taiwanese Cranes
The Edge |
A
recent export success for Bisalloy Steels serves to
illustrate how the engineering benefits of quenched
and tempered (Q&T) steels can, in the right application,
be turned into tangible and substantial market benefits.
Taiwan's leading manufacturer of truck-mounted cranes,
GW Machinery, has dramatically increased its market
share since adopting Bisalloy's Bisplate steel for
its cranes. For more information on how GW Machinery
has increased it's market share, go to:

5. Hyperbaric Chambers Showcase Local Engineering
and Fabrication |
An
Australian specialist in hyperbaric chamber design
has combined an innovative design approach with state
of the art engineering and fabrication facilities
to redefine the form and function of medical hyperbaric
chambers. Melbourne-based Fink Engineering has designed
a series of rectangular chambers for hyperbaric use
in hospitals transforming the way in which hyperbaric
medicine is practised. To find out more about this
innovative design change read the article at:

6. What Those Grades Really Mean |
There's
more to selecting a grade of steel than simply using
the short form such as "250" or "Grade
250" - there are important detail differences
between the different steels covered by these general
headings. This article highlights some of the different
characteristics inherent in specific types of steels,
and also what some of the common terms used in the
industry are. To learn more about the nomenclature
of grades, go to:

7. Did You Know... |
Five
completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your mind.
The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is birds. Did
you know:
- Birds
must fly at an average speed of 17.7 km/h to stay
aloft.
- After
bathing, starlings frequently dry themselves off
by using sheep as towels.
- An
albatross can sleep in midair while flying at a
speed of 56km/h.
- A
3 month old baby pelican weighs more than a full
grown adult pelican.
- The
petrel, a small sea bird, drinks only seawater.
If left inland beside fresh water, it will die of
thirst
