Ever wondered where steel came from for diverse projects such as Australia's oil and gas platforms in Bass Strait, the Navy's new frigate or the Longford to Sydney gas pipeline? The answer is that all were specially developed in conjunction with BHP Steel’s Metallurgical Technology Department at the Port Kembla Steelworks. 8. Did You Know...

Five completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your mind. The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is chocolate. Did you know:

  • Chocolate contains the same chemical, phenylethylamine, that your brain produces when you fall in love. But don't have too much - an excess of phenylethylamine makes people very nervous.
  • Chocolate, as a drink, was a favorite of Montezuma, emperor of the Aztecs. In the early 1500s, Montezuma drank as much as 50 glasses of chocolate every day.
  • Henri Nestlé was originally a baby food manufacturer. His work and research with condensed milk aided Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter in inventing a method to successfully combine chocolate and milk in a solid form - the first milk chocolate - in 1875.
  • The drink Ovaltine was made of milk, malt, egg, and cocoa, and was developed in 1904 in Berne, Switzerland. It was originally named Ovomaltine. A clerical error changed it when the manufacturer registered the name.
  • Peter Ostrum, the 13-year-old child actor who so charmingly played Charlie in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) left the film industry after this movie, which was his first and only film appearance. Ostrum later went on to become a veterinarian in New York.
