4. Steel Flooring Comes Of Age |
When it came to deciding how best to build his
own home, the benefits of steel flooring and the
ease with which it can now be put together convinced
Peter Keetch, Construction Manager with Sydney
based Jandson Homes, to forsake more than 30 years
traditional carpentry skills, and take up a power
screwdriver. By opting for a suspended steel flooring
system, the LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® product allowed
Peter Keetch to reduce costs due to less footings
required, when compared to conventional timber
bearers and joists, and also allowed less site
preparation on his sloping site. Read more:

7. Historic Cottage Restored To Former Glory |
A
South Australian home built in 1858 has been saved
from destruction and restored to its former glory.
Known as Hazelwood Cottage and constructed by
Englishman Howard Clark for his bride-to-be Lucy,
the original home was a simple square cottage,
to which more rooms were added over the years.
After renovating and modernising the interior,
the owners used COLORBOND® steel to replace
the slate roof, producing an attractive and eye
catching result that helped to retain the heritage
feel of the cottage. Read more:

8. Did You Know... |
Five
completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your
mind. The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is
chocolate. Did you know:
- Chocolate
contains the same chemical, phenylethylamine,
that your brain produces when you fall in love.
But don't have too much - an excess of phenylethylamine
makes people very nervous.
- Chocolate,
as a drink, was a favorite of Montezuma, emperor
of the Aztecs. In the early 1500s, Montezuma
drank as much as 50 glasses of chocolate every
day.
- Henri
Nestlé was originally a baby food manufacturer.
His work and research with condensed milk aided
Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter in inventing
a method to successfully combine chocolate and
milk in a solid form - the first milk chocolate
- in 1875.
- The
drink Ovaltine was made of milk, malt, egg,
and cocoa, and was developed in 1904 in Berne,
Switzerland. It was originally named Ovomaltine.
A clerical error changed it when the manufacturer
registered the name.
- Peter
Ostrum, the 13-year-old child actor who so charmingly
played Charlie in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate
Factory (1971) left the film industry after
this movie, which was his first and only film
appearance. Ostrum later went on to become a
veterinarian in New York.
