1. The New Face Of Functionality

Practical considerations are always central to good building design. Architects and building designers are increasingly celebrating functionality and giving it a style of its own. HMAS Harman-DNOC, an important Department of Defence facility near Canberra, designed by Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn Architects, has become the latest COLORBOND® steel Award winner at the prestigious 2004 Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) National Architecture Awards. 2. Pressure's Off For Injured Horses

Horses are following the country's top athletes on the road to recovery from injury thanks to the development of the world's first horse hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Designed by Melbourne based company, Fink Engineering, the first equine chamber was installed at Flemington in May 2004. Coffs Harbour-based engineers W.E. Smith Hudson were enlisted to build the chamber using various grades of XLERPLATE® steel from BlueScope Steel:

3. Hirotec Project Revs Up

Construction of a A$100 million new automotive manufacturing plant in South Australia is speeding ahead, with the help of local structural steel firm, MWS Engineering, and BlueScope Lysaght. The 15,000 square metre factory is being constructed by South Australian construction company, Built Environs. Read on about the use of LYSAGHT® Zed and Cee purlins in the plant construction:

4. Steel Framing - A Huge Opportunity

The residential steel framing market represents a largely untapped opportunity for Australia's building industry, where sometimes negative and often incorrect perceptions are holding back a potentially lucrative market. Builders who have switched to steel framing find that many of their previous perceptions regarding working with the product don't match the reality. Read more:
