2. A Cleaner Kimberley

More than 10 tonnes of discarded rubbish has been collected and removed by communities and school children from across the Kimberley during the Clean Up the Kimberley Weekend, which took place in October. 2,847 volunteers (up 1,000 on last year) cleaned up 72 registered sites, a total area of 12,000 square kilometres. 3. Bluebird Helps Northern Territory Take Flight
A rail journey interrupted by Cyclone Tracy more than 30 years ago has resumed with the help of Bluebird Rail Operations. Hopper wagons, made largely from XLERPLATE® steel, are transporting iron ore over 200 kilometres of railtrack from the Frances Creek Mine, north of Pine Creek, to the Port of Darwin. From there, the iron ore will be exported to China as was done before Cyclone Tracy. [Read more]


4. Ingal Invests In New Road Safety Barriers

Australia's leading road safety barrier manufacturer Ingal Civil Products has made a major breakthrough in steel barrier safety systems. The company is awaiting State authority approval of FX-350; an Australian first advanced W-beam barrier system. The system is designed to provide safe vehicle containment and redirection on urban and metropolitan highways and motorways. [Read more]


5. Fast Facts...
  • The Commonwealth Coat of Arms is the formal symbol of the Commonwealth of Australia and was granted on 19 September 1912.
  • The kangaroo and emu are the native animals that hold the shield on the coat of arms with pride. Some say the kangaroo and emu were chosen to symbolise a nation moving forward. This is based on the common belief that neither animal can move backwards easily.
  • Symbols of Australia's six states appear together on the shield. They are:
    • New South Wales – the Cross of St George with lion and stars
    • Victoria – the Southern Cross
    • Queensland – a blue Maltese Cross and Crown
    • South Australia – the Australian piping shrike
    • Western Australia – a black swan
    • Tasmania – a red walking lion
