4. Fast Facts...

With Australia's climate and outdoor lifestyle, it is almost impossible to avoid the sun's UV rays, but there are ways to protect your skin, so you can stay safe and still enjoy being outside. Make sure you and your family follow this sun-safe routine:

  • Stay in the shade whenever you can, particularly in the middle of the day (10am to 2pm or 11am to 3pm during daylight savings).
  • SLIP on sunsmart clothing that protects your shoulders, arms and legs.
  • SLOP on SPF 30+ broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen. Keep a pump pack by the door to remind the whole family to reapply when they go outside.
  • SLAP on a sunsmart hat that shades your face, neck and ears.
  • Wear sunglasses that fit the face well and meet the Australian Standard AS 1067. You can tell if they meet the standard by checking the swing tag.
