5. Fast Facts... |
- July is named after Julius Caesar, who was born in this month. Because of its origin, until the 18th century this month's name was pronounced the same way as the name "Julie"
- Previously, it was called Quintilis in Latin, being the fifth month in the Roman calendar which started in March.
- July begins on the same day of the week as April every year and also January in leap years.
- In Finnish, the month is called heinäkuu, meaning "month of hay"
- A number of countries celebrate independence and national days in the month of July including but not limited to Canada, USA, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, France, Egypt, Colombia, Somalia, Maldives and Belarus.
