8. Did You Know... |
Five
completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your mind.
The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is telephones.
Did you know:
-
Telephone comes from the Greek word tele, meaning
from afar, and phone, meaning voice or voiced sound
- The
Lazy E Ranch in Gutherie, Oklahoma, has pay telephones
that are 2 metres above the ground, for use by cowboys
on horseback
- There
is a phone booth located in Mojave dessert 23km
from the nearest paved road
- The
first payphones had an attendant who collected the
money and placed the calls. The phones were often
in very fancy large booths
- The
first mobile car phones were located in the car's
trunk, taking up nearly half of the space!
Thanks
for reading,
Adam
