2. COLORBOND® steel - 40 Years and Building Beautifully |
1966 was a big year for Australia. The dollar replaced the pound as decimal currency was introduced, married women were allowed to work for the Commonwealth Public Service for the first time, and Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon returned to Denmark under controversy. Also in that year, an Australian icon was born. COLORBOND® steel was launched and began its inexorable rise to become one of the country's favourite building materials. Read more at:

3. New Illawarra Township a 'Blueprint' for Australian Urban Design |
A unique project to build a complete community for 5,000 people on the New South Wales South Coast is being hailed as a potential blueprint for sustainable urban design and town planning. The Tullimbar Village project, which has been hailed by industry and government alike, addresses all aspects of the town's look and feel, as well as its liveability and viability. 4. BlueScope Steel Supports Ian Kiernan's Latest Challenge |
Clean Up Australia founder, Ian Kiernan AO, has created an award winning 1830s experience of Australian country life, with the assistance of modern products such as COLORBOND® steel, ZINCALUME® steel and BlueScope Water WATERPOINT® rainwater tanks. Ian's restoration of the Westham Farmhouse, Bathurst, has been recognised with the Energy Australia National Trust award for Conservation Built Heritage for a project under A$1 million. Read more at:

- Nearly half of all new homes in Australia have roofs made from COLORBOND® steel.
- Over 80% of all Australian rainwater goods are made from COLORBOND® steel.
- Approximately 6 million tonnes of COLORBOND® steel have been produced since 1966.
- COLORBOND® steel is manufactured in BlueScope Steel's Port Kembla (NSW), Western Port (VIC) and Acacia Ridge (QLD) facilities.
- Steel is 100% recyclable.
- In 1966, COLORBOND® steel was available in 10 colours. This has increased over the years to 20 in 2003 when an advanced pre-painted coating technology was introduced and the colour names were trademarked.
