5. Australian
Industry Rises to the Global Challenge |
Australia's
steel industry is experiencing an age of enlightenment
as companies awaken to the realisation that their
main competitors may not be "the bloke down the road"
but rather the global giants that are swooping on
the Australian market. Globalisation has shattered
all distance and time barriers, allowing international
giants to roam the globe and bid for contracts anywhere
and everywhere. Find out how Australia is fighting
back here:

9. Did
You Know...? |
Five
completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your mind.
The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is storms and
weather. Did you know:
- The
average rainfall around the world is 102 centimetres
per year.
- In
the world, an average of 16 million thunderstorms
are formed per year.
- The
average hurricane generates energy roughly equivalent
to 400 20-megaton bombs exploding in one day.
- Tornadoes
seem to be an almost-exclusive North American phenomena
– they occur more often in the United States than
anywhere else in the world.
- To
qualify as a hurricane, a storm must develop winds
in excess of 121 kilometres per hour. Wind speeds
as high as 354 kilometres per hour have been recorded.
