1. Art of Steel - Mackay Gallery Wins Acclaim |
A
stunning new art gallery in Mackay, Queensland

what’s inside. The building itself resembles
a giant artwork, with dynamic angles, vibrant colours,

3. Metallic Steel Builds A Bridge To Colonial Past |

steel building technology as a visual link between
the area's colonial heritage and modern day technology.

4. Sea Change Home Draws On Ocean Inspiration |
A
Melbourne architect has drawn inspiration from
the ocean to curve steel into wave formations for
the roof of a seaside retreat. The wave roof flows
in different directions atop each portion of the
home to symbolise intersecting waves, while the
corrugations in the steel depict ripples in the
water. Find out why architect David Moore chose
to use COLORBOND® steel for the Wavehouse:

5. Verandah Sets Tone For Award Winning Home |
A
Sunshine Coast home, which features a large verandah
as its centrepiece, has won the 2003 Queensland
Building Design Award for the Most Innovative Use
Of Steel. The north east facing skillion roof made
from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Surfmist® is
balanced by steel posts, creating a lean-to effect.

7. Did You Know... |
Sunday
7 March was Clean Up Australia Day, the facts
this month are related to BlueScope Steel’s
impact on the environment. Did you know:
- BlueScope Steel in Port Kembla planted 4,000 trees
on their site in April 2002
- More
than 200 BlueScope Steel employees participated
in Clean Up Australia Day 2004, collecting
more than 31 cubic metres of rubbish
- Ongoing greening of Port Kembla Steelworks is
creating a suitable environment for birds.
A bird census revealed at least 39 species have been
observed.
It is believed half of these are permanently
resident within the Works
- BlueScope Steel is Australia's leading buyer of
the more than 45,000 tonnes of steel cans recycled
each year through kerbside collections
- Port
Kembla Steelworks has initiated a landmark recycled
water agreement with Sydney Water
that will reduce the Steelworks’ fresh
water consumption by more than 50%, and greatly
reduce
the amount
of waste water going to ocean outfalls
