6. Did You Know...

Sunday 7 March was Clean Up Australia Day, the facts this month are related to BlueScope Steel’s impact on the environment. Did you know:

  • BlueScope Steel in Port Kembla planted 4,000 trees on their site in April 2002
  • More than 200 BlueScope Steel employees participated in Clean Up Australia Day 2004, collecting more than 31 cubic metres of rubbish
  • Ongoing greening of Port Kembla Steelworks is creating a suitable environment for birds. A bird census revealed at least 39 species have been observed. It is believed half of these are permanently resident within the Works

  • Port Kembla Steelworks has initiated a landmark recycled water agreement with Sydney Water that will reduce the Steelworks’ fresh water consumption by more than 50%, and greatly reduce the amount of waste water going to ocean outfalls
