With energy efficiency rapidly moving up the residential design agenda, Tasmanian based architect Detlev Geard shows how sustainable living can have a very stylish side also. A prime example of Detlev's exciting designs is his latest project located in Acton Park, Tasmania. 4. Leisure Centre Built to Last with LYSAGHT PERMALITE™ |
The design of a leisure centre at Woy Woy on the New South Wales Central Coast threw up a new challenge for Michael Davies Associates, even though the architecture practice's previous projects include more than 25 sports facilities. The high-tech A$25 million facility which opened in October 2005 includes an indoor aquatics centre, sports hall, fitness centre, cafe and creche. Read more at:

A Hunter Valley company whose modular conveyor gallery system has become an integral part of major Australian power generation, mining and minerals treatment facilities, has won its first major export order. Redispan Conveyors Pty Ltd has developed its Modular Conveyor Gallery System from a product originally patented by the Down Engineering Group of Campbelltown, New South Wales. Find out more at:

6. Ezyframe Wins Industry Award |
Regional New South Wales business Ezyframe Building Systems has recently won industry recognition for its innovation and success winning the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) national award for the innovative use of cold formed steel. Ezyframe Building Systems has devised a method of using back-to-back LYSAGHT SupaCee® purlins as structural members to achieve significant cost and design efficiencies. See more at:

7. Distinctive Roofline Becomes Signature for Popular Designer |
One of the most successful home designers on Sydney's Northern Beaches claims the curved steel roofs for which he has become well known are among the last things he considers when commencing a new design. Peter Downes, whose first architectural endeavour was a major makeover of his own home, decided that the simple solution, a conventional flat or near flat roof, was not in keeping with his design ideas.
