This Month's Feature Article
1. LYSAGHT ROOFTRAK® Provides Safe Roof Access

LYSAGHT ROOFTRAK® is a safe, stable, slip resistant walkway system for incidental access to roof-mounted equipment and services. Laid on top of the existing roof cladding, the system offers flexibility in layout. The brackets used to fix the walkway feature numerous mounting holes, while there are a number of accessories to assist in finishing the job. Find out more about this product here:

2.
Purlins Aid BHP Steel Lysaght Expansion

Building products rollformer BHP Steel Lysaght is using a move into new Victorian production facilities to showcase the performance of purlins made from GALVASPAN® steel. Cold formed, galvanised purlins made from GALVASPAN® steel have minimum yield strengths 60 percent greater than hot rolled steel purlins. This allows lighter sections to be used and fixing times to be minimised by using self drilling, self tapping screws. Find out more here:

3. Country Retreat Offers Modern Style

The architecturally designed High Gate Country Retreat is a contemporary open plan house featuring roofing and wall cladding made from ZINCALUME® steel. Owner Don Howell said the retreat particularly suited "DINK" (double income no kids) couples looking for a chance to get away from it all. It can accommodate six people and is entirely self-contained with three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, air conditioning and wood fire. For more:

4. Looking for an Old Steel in Focus Article?

It can be a frustrating experience trying to locate an article when you can't remember which issue of a periodical it appeared in. BHP Steel therefore brings you the Steel in Focus Archive - putting all the articles from all the issues at your fingertips. If you are involved in heavy engineering, manufacturing and infrastructure, the archive is an essential reference. Browse the articles here:

5. Steel Truss Creates More Attic Space

A novel steel roof truss system developed to create usable space inside a roof cavity has allowed a Sydney architectural company to create a large rumpus room at minimal cost. Rob Hale of the YBC Group is using steel building frame technology to convert a conventional fibro home into a spacious two storey dwelling in the style of mid-western American architecture. Speed of erection, design flexibility and the structural integrity of the framing system made from ZINCALUME® steel, were major factors in YBC's decision. Find out more here:

6. COLORBOND® steel Strip for Any Application

COLORBOND® steel is widely recognised in the building and construction industry as the cladding product of choice. However, BHP Steel manufactures many other grades of steel under the COLORBOND® steel name for a multitude of purposes. From internal, manufactured products that demand a superior surface finish, to tough and longlasting external applications that are made to withstand the elements, there is a COLORBOND® steel grade to suit. 8. Did You Know...

Five completely trivial but fun facts to boggle your mind. The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is chocolate. Did you know:

  • A single chocolate chip provides sufficient food energy for an adult to walk about 50 metres, hence, it would take about 875,000 chocolate chips fo fuel an around-the-world hike.
  • Chocolate syrup was used for blood in the famous 45 second shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock's movie, "Psycho" which actually took 7 days to shoot.
  • Chocolate has over 500 flavor components, more than twice the amount found in strawberry and vanilla.
  • Chocolate can be lethal to dogs because it contains Theobromine, an ingredient that stimulates the cardiac muscle and the central nervous system.
  • The Swiss consume more chocolate per capita than any other country in the world - more than 10kg per person per year on average.
