Work is on track at EDI Rail's workshop in Port Augusta, South Australia. This well established Australian company is busy with the production of large numbers of rolling stock to be used on the recently constructed Alice to Darwin rail link. Each 80 metre long five-pack wagons weigh 63 tonnes. A 22 metre long locomotive weighs 130 tonnes. 2. The Look Of Lattice With The Strength Of Steel

Melbourne’s Metalat Industries has developed a traditional looking outdoor lattice that benefits from the proven strength and durability of COLORBOND® steel. 5. The Cutting Edge of Laser Technology

Bristow Laser Systems is the only Australian owned company dedicated to the research, development, and manufacture of laser cutting systems. On average, Bristow Laser Systems produces about 12 machines a year. Depending on the model, each machine will use from 8 to 10 tonnes of steel in its manufacture. The quality of steel used for the base and body of these machines is integral to its performance, which is why Bristow Laser Systems has chosen to use Lasercut 250 XLERPLATE® and 350 XLERPLATE® from BHP Steel. With the Rugby Union World Cup kicking off in October, the fact theme for this month is Rugby Union. Did you know:

  • Rugby, or at least one form of the game, is said to have been played in Australia since the 1820s, although the first club - the Sydney University Rugby Union Club - was not formed until 1864
  • An Australian team played and won their first ever Test in June 1899 against a touring Great Britain side at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
  • Australia, which is divided into six states and two territories, has more than 850 clubs and more than 30,000 seniors playing the game
  • The first Rugby Union World Cup tournament was played between 16 teams in May and June 1987 in New Zealand and Australia
  • The Rugby World Cup is now established as the third biggest sporting event behind the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup
