1. High-Efficiency
House Impresses With Savings |
A home on the outskirts of Melbourne demonstrates
how clever design and construction can provide ongoing
savings for owners. Environmental building consultant
Mr Jan Brandjes and senior project architect Bridget
Puszka of BP Architects specifically designed the
home to incorporate energy efficient and cost saving
features including water saving ideas, shading and
ventilation systems. To find out more about high-efficiency
designs go to:

2. Steel Curbs Termite's Taste For Housing |
Termite
attacks on homes are costing Australians at least
AU$100 million each year. According to an independent
study, more than 12 percent of timber framed homes
had been attacked by termites at some point, while
not one steel framed home surveyed had suffered
a termite attack. To find out more about this study

3. Environmentally Friendly Retreat A Winner |
Combining
aesthetic appeal and environmental friendliness
is the key to a unique home design from one of
Western Australia's leading building companies.
Rural Building Company specifically designed its
Skillion Retreat to minimise its impact on its
surrounds and to optimise solar orientation. The
combination of steel and glass, together with the
skillion roof, gives the home a striking architectural
look from all angles. To find out more about this
striking use of COLORBOND® steel, go to:

towers for a new wind farm located at Millicent
in south east South Australia. The first stage

7. The Cutting Edge of Laser Technology |
Bristow
Laser Systems is the only Australian owned company
dedicated to the research, development, and manufacture
of laser cutting systems. On average, Bristow Laser
Systems produces about 12 machines a year. Depending
on the model, each machine will use from 8 to 10
tonnes of steel in its manufacture. The quality
of steel used for the base and body of these machines
is integral to its performance, which is why Bristow
Laser Systems has chosen to use Lasercut 250 XLERPLATE® and
350 XLERPLATE® from BHP Steel.
