Warranties for Peace of Mind

Material warranties cover the material those products are made from, such as COLORBOND® steel. Some manufacturers of roofing also offer performance warranties to assure users their products will perform as expected when installed. You should talk to your supplier about the details of any performance warranties they may offer.

Material Warranties

Warranties are available* against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements, and against paint flake and peel. The sample warranties contain the full terms and conditions of the warranty and are available for download below.

Roofing

Roofing made from COLORBOND® steel and ZINCALUME® steel

For COLORBOND® steel and ZINCALUME® steel, BlueScope Steel offers a warranty against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements for a period of up to 30 years* from the date of installation. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the paint system on COLORBOND® steel will not flake or peel due to natural weathering for a period of up to 20 years* from the date of installation.

Warranty Offer Prior to Aug 2008

 

Roofing made from COLORBOND® Stainless, Ultra or Metallic steel

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty period of up to 25 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements for COLORBOND® Stainless, Ultra or Metallic steel when used in roofing applications. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the paint system will not flake or peel due to natural weathering for a period of up to 20 years* from the date of installation.

The 10 year* COLORBOND® Ultra steel for Roofing Warranty applies to COLORBOND® Ultra prepainted steel installed as roofing in severe marine environments. (Typically less than 100m from breaking surf). The additional terms/conditions are:

  • Installed pitch of the roof is equal to or greater than 5 degrees above the horizontal.
  • The roof is fully lined and does not contain exposed eaves or other areas sheltered or unwashed by natural rainfall.
  • All fasteners used for fixing the Product to be in accordance with BlueScope Steel recommendations and comply with Australian Standard AS3566: Class 4 where applicable.

Walling - Light Industrial/Commercial Applications

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 15 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the paint system on COLORBOND® steel will not flake or peel due to natural weathering for up to 12 years* from the date of installation. It is applicable to light industrial/commercial walling applications located greater than one kilometre from a marine environment. Warranties may be available on COLORBOND® Stainless steel and COLORBOND® Ultra steel applications located closer to marine environments, please contact us for further details.

It applies to the following products when used in light commercial/industrial walling applications:

  • COLORBOND® Stainless steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)
  • COLORBOND® Ultra steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)
  • COLORBOND® steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)
  • COLORBOND® Metallic steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)
  • ZINCALUME® steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)

Residential Walling

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 12 years* from date of installation against corrosion to perforation due to weathering in the natural elements for COLORBOND® steel used in residential walling.

BlueScope Steel also warrants for 12 years* from the date of installation that the paint system on COLORBOND® steel will not flake or peel due to weathering in the natural elements.

This warranty is applicable to residential walling applications located greater than one kilometre from a marine environment that are washed by natural rainfall.

This warranty is not available for COLORBOND® Metallic steel or ZINCALUME® steel.

This warranty applies to the following products when used in residential walling applications:

  • COLORBOND® Stainless steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)
  • COLORBOND® Ultra steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)
  • COLORBOND® steel (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness)

Warranty Offer Prior to Aug 2008

  • No warranty was available for residential walling installations prior to 04/08/2008.

Residential Eave Gutters, Fascia and Downpipes

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of up to 20 years from date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements for COLORBOND® steel used as Eave Gutters, Fascia and Downpipes. BlueScope Steel also warrants for up to 20 years from date of installation that the paint system on COLORBOND® steel will not flake or peel due to weathering in the natural elements when used as Eave Gutters and Downpipes ONLY.

Where COLORBOND® Stainless steel and COLORBOND® Ultra steel are used in their recommended environments, according to Technical Bulletin TB-15, BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of up to 12 years from date of installation against corrosion to perforation due to weathering in the natural elements for Eave Gutters, Fascia and Downpipes. BlueScope Steel also warrants for up to 12 years from date of installation that the paint system on will not flake or peel due to weathering in the natural elements when used as Eave Gutters and Downpipes ONLY.

Where ZINCALUME® steel is used in the recommended environment, according to Technical Bulletin TB-15, BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of up to 12 years from date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements for Eave Gutters, Fascia and Downpipes.

This warranty is only available for residential applications and does not apply to box gutters.

Fencing

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 10 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the paint system will not flake or peel due to natural weathering for 10 years*.

It applies to the following products when used in fencing applications located greater than one kilometre from a marine environment:

Garages and Sheds

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 15 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements, when used as roofing and walling for sheds and domestic garage applications located greater than one kilometre from a marine environment only.

It applies to the following products when used in shed and large domestic garage applications (covering an area of not less than 18 square metres):

  • ZINCALUME® AZ150 steel
    (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness for walling), (>=0.42mm Base Metal Thickness for roofing)
  • COLORBOND® steel
    (>=0.35mm Base Metal Thickness for walling (exterior roofing and walling grade)), (>=0.42mm Base Metal Thickness for roofing)

Insulated Panels

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 10 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation, for insulated panels manufactured from the following products:

  • COLORBOND® Permagard® Insulated Panel Steel
  • COLORBOND® Insulated Panel Steel

It is applicable to a wide range of coolroom applications.

Architectural Walling

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of up to 15 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the exterior paint system will not flake or peel for 12 years* due to natural weathering. It is applicable to light industrial/commercial walling applications (excludes residential walling applications) located greater than one kilometre from a marine environment or severe industrial influence.

It applies to the following products when used in light commercial/industrial walling applications:

  • COLORBOND® steel
  • COLORBOND® Ultra steel
  • COLORBOND® Metallic steel

Architectural Roofing

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of up to 15 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the exterior paint system will not flake or peel for 12 years* due to natural weathering. It is applicable to light industrial/commercial roofing applications (excludes residential roofing applications) located greater than one kilometre from a marine environment or severe industrial influence.

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 20 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation of water tanks installed in residential dwellings.

Purlins

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 10 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by natural degradation, when used within the building envelope (not exposed to natural environment).

It is applicable to light industrial/commercial applications located greater than 1km from a marine environment only and applies to the following products when used in purlin applications:

Structural Formwork

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of 10 years* from the date of installation against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements for DECKFORM® Z350 steel. Similarly a 15 year* warranty to perforation is offered for DECKFORM® Z450 steel. This warranty is applicable to a wide range of applications (both internal and external).

Steel Building Frames

BlueScope Steel offers a warranty of up to 50 years* from the date of installation on house framing manufactured from TRUECORE® steel.

This warranty applies only to the steel roof structure and wall framing components which are enclosed within the building envelope for domestic dwellings.
