8. Did You Know... |
Five completely trivial
but fun facts to boggle your mind. The theme for this edition of 'S.O.S' is Australia.
Did you know:
- Australia is the
smallest, flattest, and driest inhabited continent in the World. It is the only
country which is also a whole continent.
- Arguably the largest
state in the world, Western Australia covers one-third of the Australian continent.
It spans over 2.5 million square kilometers
- Uluru (Ayres Rock)
is the largest rock in the world. 3.6km long and 2.4km wide, it rises out of the
middle of the country to a height of 348 metres.
- Strangeray Springs
cattle station in South Australia is the largest ranch in the world. Its area
measures 30,029 km square - only slightly smaller than the European country of
Belgium.
- The largest lake
in Australia is Lake Eyre, measuring 8,885 km square. However, it has only been
filled with water 3 times in the past 100 years (it is a salt lake the rest of
the time).
