This Month's Feature Article
1. Built To Last

A Narromine homestead dating from the 1920s has been lovingly restored, transformed from a state of neglect into a warm and inviting family home. Surprisingly, after being home to birds, cows and other animals before work started, much of the original interior was able to be saved, including original LYSAGHT MINI ORB® interior walls. Read how LYSAGHT® products were used for roofing, cladding and interior features to restore this home to its former glory:

2. Precious Metal

Steel roofing specialist, Damien O'Halloran is passionate about his work. So when it came to building a new family home, he wanted only the best materials. Designed by award winning architect, Geoff Lovie, the O'Halloran house displays clean lines, contemporary thinking and an inviting atmosphere. In keeping with Damien's love of steel, the house features an impressive combination of LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® and LYSAGHT MINI ORB® inside and out. Read more at:

3. Maintaining your LYSAGHT® Roofing - Full Manual Now Available

Regular maintenance and inspection can extend the life of your roof, gutters, fascia and downpipes and ensures that the conditions of your warranty are met. Our "how to" page will provide you with guidelines on the frequency and important aspects of maintaining your roof, or from the same page you can download the full maintenance manual. Find it at:

4. Steel Yourself For Climate Change

Prominent eco-design specialist, Dr Tony Fry believes that architects' clients should be made aware of future weather change related risk in construction projects. In many parts of Australia, hotter temperatures, increased wind speeds that facilitate bush fires, torrential downpours and hail storms are likely to continue to occur and intensify. Dr Fry said businesses and homeowners should place greater demands on architects to design buildings to cope with these climate induced changes. Read how steel is being specified to cope with these changing conditions at:

5. Places Now On Offer For NSW Metal Roof Fixing Certificate Course

Following the success of a pilot course at Gymea TAFE earlier this year, BlueScope Steel and the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) are giving young people a free opportunity to get a start in the metal roof fixing trade. A 13 week, fully subsidised pre-vocational course in metal roof fixing is being offered at three NSW TAFE campuses; Gymea, Maitland and Mount Druitt, starting 8 November 2004. Find out more at:

6. Top Fencing For Top End

One of BlueScope Lysaght's premier fencing products, LYSAGHT NEETASCREEN®, is turning heads in the Top End. It's now available in Darwin, after having been specially developed to withstand the region's cyclonic conditions. After local builder Robert Cox from Overlander Homes and BlueScope Lysaght's Andrew Firley met and discovered the hole in the market, the development of the fencing took six months. Read how LYSAGHT NEETASCREEN® is taking hold in the Northern Territory at:

7. Demand For Steel Framed Housing Leads To Job Opportunities

Rapidly growing demand for steel framed homes has prompted one leading Australian steel frame producer, SBS International, to develop its own nationally accredited training program for steel fixers. Since 1997, SBS International has trained more than 300 tradesmen Australia wide in order to fulfil the ever growing demand for steel framed houses. Read on at:
