Can I use COLORBOND® Coolmax® steel on my residential home?
Yes. As with other bright and light-coloured materials, consideration should be given to visual amenity, particularly in hilly terrain where the roof can be viewed by neighbouring properties to the south and above.

Can I buy a COLORBOND® steel fence that has a different colour on each side?
No, generally not. The steel infill panels, posts and rails are the same colour on both sides. You can add some colour variety by 'mix and matching' sheets, posts, rails, lattice and caps of different colours along the fenceline, see our fencing colours page to help with your colour choice. Please note that you cannot place infill sheets of different colours back to back - the posts and rails are not designed for this. The only way to achieve a different colour on one side of the fence is to paint it. Overpainting will, however, result in a surface which is not as durable as the original oven-baked COLORBOND® steel paint finish. Painting the fence will also void any warranty on the infill sheets. For more information on how to paint products manufactured from COLORBOND® steel, visit our Technical Bulletins page and read TB-2 Overpainting and Restoration of COLORBOND® Prepainted Steel Sheet. However, if you have a substantial development proposal that might involve a large quantity then please contact us.
-
Can I buy a fence made from COLORBOND® steel in any height?
Standard heights for COLORBOND® steel are 1.5m and 1.8m. These are readily available. If you require a different height, this can generally be organised by your supplier - however you may need to wait longer and there may be extra charges applicable.

How did you work out the possible cooling energy savings with COLORBOND® Coolmax® steel?
The cooling energy savings associated with COLORBOND® Coolmax® steel have been quantified in our own BlueScope Steel building study. This involved comparing the relative running costs of three identical insulated buildings, the only difference being the type of roofing material used. The results have been used as a guide to possible savings for other buildings. This is further supported by information from reputable sources in the public domain, see our Calculator and Case Study.
-
Will COLORBOND® Coolmax® steel show dirt and will I have to clean it regularly?
All light products have a greater tendency to show dirt than darker colours. Fortunately all COLORBOND® steel has excellent resistance to dirt retention, so regular washing from the rain is all that is usually required to keep your roof looking great.
