The challenge
Nine levels plus roof structure on an existing 13 level platform
The solution
BlueScope Lysaght's Design and Construction business delivered an innovative solution for this Multiplex project on Sydney's World Square site. Steel framing and composite slabs were the better option to add nine storeys to the existing 13 storey structure. BlueScope Lysaght Design and Construction turned a good idea into a great result.

- Scope of work included design management, planning and construction of all elements associated with framing and 25,000 square metres of floors
- Proactive program creation.
- Design optimised by incorporation of British Code and Euro Code elements

- Management and co ordination of 30 material and service suppliers
- Ancillary services provided included tower crane, pour planning, safety railing installation

- Required fire rating achieved through concrete filled 600mm diameter columns and coating of primary beams only
- Pre-installation of column reinforcement in steel tubes prior to delivery
- Columns and beams erected as complete units
- Managed off site fabrication of framing
- Scheduled delivery of fabricated assemblies and truckload planning to match required installation sequence
- Average cycle time of one floor per week maintained regardless of site conditions
- Deck and framing construction package achieved six weeks ahead of schedule
- Less than ten personnel involved in on site erection
